Sacramento - The California Legislative Black Caucus has issued a call for applications for its annual African American Leaders for Tomorrow Program (AALTP). The weeklong residential summer program will be held at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), from July 21–28, 2012. Fifty (50) students will be selected for participation in the program to receive leadership training and attend workshops on topics including financial literacy, effective leadership, college preparation and the importance of community advocacy.

Black, Latin and Asian caucus members don ‘hoodies’ in solidarity with slain teen’s family

Family deserves justice after teen slain by self-appointed ‘crimestopper’ SACRAMENTO -- The California Legislative Black Caucus today expressed their sadness and frustration with the killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, the lack of an arrest in his murder and various recent comments placing blame on the victim or his choice of clothing. Sacramento - The California Legislative Black Caucus announced March 2nd as the deadline to receive applications for their annual CLBC scholarship. The amount of each award is $1,000.00 The California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC) Scholarship Program was established to assist deserving students by offering financial assistance to help meet educational expenses. Scholarship Candidates must be full-time students in good academic standing at an accredited college or university.

Sacramento - The California Legislative Black Caucus hosted a book signing and reception for Olympic icon and author John Carlos on Monday, February 13, 2012 at the California History Museum. Carlos was also presented with a Senate Resolution on the floor of the Senate earlier that day in recognition of Black History Month. Hundreds were in attendance at the event where Carlos gave a spirited talk urging the audience to reach out to Black youth, offering guidance and support.

Sacramento – More than 500 people squeezed into the California History Museum on February 7th for the festive Grand Opening Reception of the historic exhibit, “Tuskegee Airmen: Journey to Flight.” The California Legislative Black Caucus hosted the reception during which several Tuskegee Airmen and relatives of the Airmen were acknowledged and presented with certificates of honor.

Carlos will also be presented with a Senate Resolution on the floor of the Senate earlier that day Carlos’ and Tommie Smith’s black-gloved raised fist salute on the 1968 Olympic podium was seen around the world and sparked a great deal of political and public controversy.

Sacramento – The California Legislative Black Caucus will host the 2012 Civil Rights Leadership Awards Breakfast, honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at the Holiday Inn, 300 J St. Sacramento. "We are privileged to host this breakfast in honor of the greatest Civil Rights leader of our time whose words and actions have become the template for social justice in America and throughout the world,” said Senator Curren D, Price, Jr., Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus.

Sacramento – Senator Curren D. Price, Jr., Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus,  announced Wednesday that PG&E, AT&T and Southern California Edison have offered to donate an undisclosed amount of money to help cover $51,000 in scholarship checks that the Caucus awarded to students from a frozen bank account that was maintained by accountant Kinde Durkee.
