Holden Delivers Juneteenth Prayer

(Sacramento) – As part of the Juneteenth Celebration at the State Capitol Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) gave the opening prayer for the State Assembly’s June 26, 2017 floor session. “As we remember June 19th, 1865 – Juneteenth – the day the word reached Texas of the abolishment of slavery in the United States, that those of African descent were now free from bondage…Lord, lets us reflect on their jubilation as they celebrated the day you moved on their behalf,” said Assemblymember Holden. “But let us also be mindful that freedom was not free and even today we labor under the residue of the poison over 300 years of slavery can bear.” Watch Assemblymember Holden deliver the prayer in this Assembly Access video.
