Dear Friends,
As Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus, I was honored to participate in events last week that celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. It was on that historic day in 1963 when over 250,000 civil rights activists descended the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to demand social justice and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech.
To celebrate this important day in our nation's history, I participated in rallies at the State Capitol and in Los Angeles honoring the march and its impact on the Civil Rights Movement. Additionally, I supported House Resolution 22, by Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez which commemorates the March on Washington and was adopted by the Assembly last week.
It was an honor for me to recognize this critical moment in our history.
Sincerely,
Assemblymember Holly J. Mitchell
