Program Overview:

The 2024 African-American Leaders for Tomorrow program takes place from July 17-20 at California State University, Dominguez Hills where students will live in the dorms and eat in the dining commons to enhance the "college" experience. AALT is a prestigious 4-day summer program designed to empower and equip participants with essential leadership skills. Hand-selected students will undergo comprehensive leadership training and attend enlightening panels covering topics such as financial literacy, the college experience, the legislative process, and civic engagement. Additionally, each participant will be paired with a mentor for the duration of the program.

Goals:
Aligned with the mission of the California Legislative Black Caucus, the primary goal of the AALT Program is to bridge the achievement gap for African Americans. Specifically, the program aims to:  

  • - Increase civic engagement and participation among African American youth.
  • - Expand the pool of leaders and enhance representation within the African American community.
  • - Foster cultural and community involvement among participants.
  • - Identify and prepare the next generation of African American leaders to realize their full potential.

Program Highlights:
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate recognizing their commitment and achievement. Additionally, special prizes will be awarded to students who successfully attend all program sessions.

Application Requirements:
To be considered for this transformative opportunity, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Fill out the registration form.
  2. Email two (2) essays (one personal statement and one on leadership).
  3. Upload a current high school transcript.
  4. Submit one letter of recommendation from a school official or community member (not related to the applicant).
  5. Upload a recent applicant photo.

Essay Requirements:

  • Each essay must be typed with your full name at the top of each page.
  • Responses must directly address the given prompts.
  • Each essay should be between 300 and 500 words.
