CLBC Honors African American Women During Women’s History Month

SACRAMENTO – The members of the California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC), in celebration of Women’s History Month, will pay special tribute to outstanding African American women, who have broken the glass ceiling in their respective areas.

CLBC Chair and state Senator Holly J. Mitchell said, “As we transition from Black History Month into Women’s History Month, it is quite fitting to turn our focus to the female architects and agents of social justice and the pathway they paved for all of us. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for women such as Dorothy Heights, Ella Baker, Septima Poinsette Clark, Fannie Lou Hamer, Daisy Bates and countless others. The CLBC is honored to recognize the outstanding work of African American women in our society today.”

This year’s recipients of the CLBC Heritage and Horizons awards are Renata Simril, Senior Vice President-External Affairs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Faye Washington, CEO, YWCA of Greater Los Angeles.

The CLBC would recognize the outstanding work of these two African American women during their Heritage and Horizons Women’s History Month Breakfast on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 8 AM to 10 AM at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria, 828 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
