This year the CLBC kicked off Juneteenth with a series of events beginning with an annual reception themed “Beyond Resistance: Empowerment Through Education and Civic Engagement” at the California Railroad Museum. During this reception, the Caucus honored four distinguished academic leaders Dr. Horace Mitchell, president of CSU, Bakersfield; Dr. Soraya Coley, president of CSU, Pomona; Dr. William Hagan, president of CSU, Dominguez Hills and Dr. Gary May, incoming chancellor of UC, Davis. These individuals have each made strides in their respective roles to educate and empower the next generation.
The Juneteenth celebratioin continued with a floor ceremony recognizing African American Judges from across California who uphold the freedoms, liberties, and rights that were hard won over the past few decades. Additionally, the CLBC partnered with the Freedman's Bureau to discuss the importance of family history, contributions of Black Americans to the country's success, and tools for geneology research for Black family. During the 50th year of the CLBC, "The Legacy Continues."
