Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, Democrat representing Sacramento, West Sacramento, Rio Linda, Elverta, and Antelope, was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2014. McCarty serves as Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, overseeing the largest component of California’s multi-billion dollar budget. As Chair, McCarty has made historic investments in K-12 funding, early childhood education, and increased the number of students enrolled in California’s Community College, California State University and University of California systems. Other priorities include housing affordability, climate change, criminal justice/police reform, and gun violence. McCarty serves as the Secretary for the California Legislative Black Caucus. McCarty also served on the Sacramento City Council from 2004 to 2014. A lifelong Sacramentan, McCarty received a B.A. in Political Science from CSU Long Beach and a M.A. in Public Policy and Administration from CSU Sacramento.
